One of the big questions, which tends to divide vapors, is the age-old question of single coil or dual coils.

And to be honest, there isn't a set-up, which is best! And like many areas of vaping, it comes down to personal preference.

But when making a decision, whether have a single coil or dual coil, there are a few things to consider.

Power consumption

Double the coils, and you double your electricity consumption. Also, if your looking at getting the more vaping time out of your battery, then you can consider, sticking to the single coil builds. A simple rule of thumb is:: The bigger the structure, the greater the power consumption. I tend to do that, that switching between singles- and dual, will literally find half of your battery life.

warmth

Some atomizers have smaller chambers, to support intensive flavor production. With these small chambers you need to be aware of the amount of heat, that produce your coils, because even after a short period of vaping a larger dual coil setup you will notice the increased heat transfer from the coils to the chamber wall.

E-cigarette vapor oil consumption

The number of coils you install on your deck will definitely affect the amount of e-cigarette vapor. A dual coil setup will burn through twice as much e-cigarette vape fluid as a simpler single coil setup. This is because you are actually vaping e-cigarette vape oil at twice the rate.

Steam production

The main advantage of a dual coil is capability, to produce more steam, whether it is twice the amount or not, is difficult to say. But a well-built dual-coil setup will defiantly kick out the clouds. They effectively produce twice the amount of vapor in the same time, delivering a thick and dense vapor.

flavor

Flavor is one of the hardest elements to quantify and will once again divide vapes. Personally I think so, that a single coil produces better flavor reproduction than a dual coil setup. I'm not sure, what the science behind it is, and I'm sure, that some of you disagree. But when it comes to taste, I will always choose a single coil. I'm not sure, whether it has to do with the heat, or the speed, which it burns through the juice, I'm not sure.

Simple construction

Finally, it comes down to the ease of setting up and adjusting your coils. Obviously building a single coil is much easier to work with. When working in pairs, is it important, that you get both coils identical, so that perform harmoniously. When one winding is arranged slightly differently than the other, it will warm up faster than the other one, what means, that they absorb the juice at different rates. And you will notice, that over time one cotton wick becomes darker than the other and caramelizes more quickly, because it heats up more than the other one.

As you can see, There are a number of factors to consider, some measurable, others don't, but at the end of the day, like many things in vaping, it comes down to personal preference. And just because you might prefer single coil setup on one of your atty's you may prefer dual coil, on another. For example, I always have Squonk with a dual coil set-up, drip mit Duals, but prefer a simple single coil set-up in my RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomiser). So I would recommend, try out different setups, to see, what suits your vaping style.
